The Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association is pleased to announce that Orangeville will be the site of the 2010 Canadian Grappling World Team Trials.
Grappling is a mixture of many combative sports/arts including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Sport Jiujitsu, Judo, Wrestling and others. It was added as a discipline of wrestling by the International Olympic Committee under the Management of FILA Wrestling (Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées), the International Governing Body for Wrestling.
These Trials have been awarded by the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association, the National Sport Body governing all styles of Wrestling, including FILA Grappling.
The event is the Qualifier for the National Team to represent Canada at the 2010 World Wrestling Games which will take place October 8-10, 2010 in Rakvere Estonia.
The Trials will take place August 7th and 8th. They will be hosted at Westside Secondary School in Orangeville. The event is being sponsored and hosted by the Orangeville Dojo, under the guidance of Sensei Angelo Panoussis. Sensei Panousis is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Head instructor at the Dojo. He is also an accomplished Grappler, having represented Canada at the 2008 FILA World Grappling Championships in Lucerne Switzerland placing 12th and 15th in the Gi and no-Gi divisions respectively. The Orangeville Dojo is affiliated with the Behring Association, known world wide in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The Dojo will partner with the Triumph Wrestling Club led by Michel Bedard in hosting the Trials.
Canada has quickly become an International power in FILA World Grappling Championship events, having placed third as a country among theover 50 countries participating in each of the 2009 (Fort Lauderdale, USA and 2008 (Lucerne, Switzerland) World Championships.

CAWA and OAWA are the respective Canadian and Provincial members of FILA. The 2009 Nationals were hosted in Ottawa, Ontario.
